FINANCIAL ADMINISTRATION

AMURT follows a set of administrative procedures which set a high standard of financial accountability and project evaluation. In 2005 the NGO restructured completely its administration, following the recommendations of its two major partners, USAID (US Agency for International Development) and CRS (Catholic Relief Services). The restructuring included a tightening of the procedures for purchasing, depot maintenance, record keeping, in-house evaluation, accounting, and personnel. The new AMURT system was modeled after that of CRS, which has had more than 50 years experience of development work in Haiti. CRS offered series of training workshops to the AMURT staff, and has regularly reinforced AMURT in its administration.

Most recently AMURT's current greatest funding partner, ACDI (Canadian International Development Agency), has invested significant time and resources in strengthening the NGO's capacity to maintain a transparent, effective, and systematic administrative management. The result has been a streamlining of all procedures, optimization of the efficiency of the field operations, improvement of project evaluation processes, strengthening of team spirit, and reinforcing the organizational capacity to intervene effectively in a variety of emergency and development settings.

Since 2004 AMURT has passed with high grades all of its internal and external project evaluations and financial audits. As one WFP official recently commented about AMURT, "You are really investing in the communities. The results of your work says it all, and talking to the people on the field shows that you are very well accepted in the area." In setting an example of transparent, efficient, and people-centered type of project administration focusing on the local communities and their best interests AMURT intends to create a development model that can be replicated not just in rural Haiti but elsewhere in the developing world.
